Yeah... now I remember reading something like that, faulty memory
strikes again... Of course I never gave it a thought until now.  0079
was mono, never expected it to be anything else.

I should give a try, just to hear the new SFX.  I am ambivalent about
the idea, the old 1979 sounds have a lot of cheesy bits that just
scream 70s, but then... that's how it sounded, changing it seems a
little like colorizing Charlie Chaplin.

Well Bandai had given it quite a bit of promotion so I assume the
result should sound pretty nice.  Voice acting doesn't really need 5.1
anyway, the important thing is SFX for mecha scenes.

Sure but how closely does anime studios follow the tech advances?

On a related question, has there been ANY anime broadcast in HDTV yet?
 The first HDTV broadcast I know about was one of the Olympics
(Atlanta?  Nagano?) and the current HD broadcast are mainly sports,
PBS nature shows and primetime shows.  Don't know who will take the
first plunge and do a HD anime/animation.
