This might deserve a new thread, but it may end right here, so I am not editing the subject line for now.

Assuming you prefer 3 lbs tome over video games (Jade Empire, Romance of 3 Kingdoms) Spence's book, WTH it's only $20 now??? Anyhoo... it's a really excellent book if you can tough it out. I did it in a univ. course 10 yrs ago and I still pick it up from time to time. It focus on the 200 years up to 1989's Tiananmen movement (and massacre) but extends to AD 1600s to help understand the later period. It's reprinted in late 2001, but I don't know if he updated the book on CCP's post-Tiananmen strategy and social changes. It's only 400 years out of 3000, but it might be the part that's most directly interesting to the West. What may interest you in particular, are the women. I still have the extra course materials, which were all primary source documents translated into English. A few were written by (or about) prominent women in literature, politics and revolutions. CCP were quite successful at promoting (and exploiting?) grassroot feminist movement. I will see if I can find it and scan 1 or 2 articles for you privately. -- Dr. Core -------------------------------------------------- The Gundam Mailing List MK-II [email protected] Archives: http://www.gundam.com/gml Help: Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] with this in the BODY: help list
