Isn't Bandai Japan's president vocal about animating The Origin? I think that could work pretty well given some of the tweeks like the humour. The only worry I'd have is if it'd completly lose the whole "MSG if it didn't have the toy execs cracking whips" factor, since Bandai seemingly won't touch anything Gundam if they can't force plamos down our throats.

I'd agree. The actual number of US based fans who domestically support
Gundam is a small number, regardless of what delussions some fans have on
their size. Add in that at least a small number of those sales is also
coming from folks like myself who live outside of the US but import the
English-language merchandise. The toys and model kits haven't been helped by

the declining US toy market.
I personally think a big problem is all this jumping between the timelines.
If MSG had worked we'd probably have seen a steady chain of UC releases but
all this AC to UC to FC to SD to CE just makes things confusing for people.

I know it is useless wishing, but I would like to see Japan attempt a
straight out redo of First Gundam with Tomino on board. They could either
just redo the animation, or they could allow him to redo the series. There
are so many other shows that seem to get a version 2 in addition to the
"classic" version, why not do the same for First Gundam? The problem with
retelling the story with "different characters" (Seed) is that it seems like
a rehash clone. While a strict redo could be considered a rehash, it can't
be a clone because it is the exact same characters. I know it is useless
speculating, but I think if done correctly it could be a hit here and there.
I think First Gundam would have a better chance here with better animation.
