So very true. I'm not really starting a political discussion, I just had to state my feelings, you know?

Anyway, yep political discussions usually devolve into hellish flame feasts no matter how civil they start out.

But there's a difference between talking about people talking about politics (what essentially started this thread) versus arguing over them ourselves. The former can be interesting. And because we're talking about the viewpoints of third parties, it's generally more restrained and polite. The latter I've seen get out of control very, very quickly - both here and on other lists. I do discuss politics with others under the right circumstances. But I greatly prefer that those discussions take place when I know that if either side starts arguing simply for the sake of arguing (which politics seems to cause quite a bit more than other topics, imo) it will be possible to pull back, take a deep breath, and put the discussion off until everyone has cooled down.

The occasional discussions that have occured on this mailing list and others quickly seem to reach the fervor pitch of an Evangelion fan vs. anti-Evangelion fan, and invariably are only called off when others start to complain.

You make valid points, but politics are part of Gundam, right?
Spacenoids vs. Earthnoids and all that.

The sad thing is, Americans in general hate to get embroiled n
    politics,
but love to bash & bitch about our Government.

With Gundam, politics are hard to completely avoid.
