Stolen mecha (a la pretty much every other modern Gundam story), incomplete
and not ready yet (GP-03?), possibly destroyed in a tragic accident (given
all of the other SRW:OG influences, not unreasonable) ... definitely safe to
say it's not accidental and inevitably will be a plot point.

Either that or they still want to be able to say 'daburoh' in the voiceover
narration, despite it not being in the UC timeline ;P

Doesn't all the text up to now refer to them as a 'boy pilot'? I wouldn't
rule out it being a girl _pretending_ to be a boy (though quite badly, given
the character design). You could be onto something with the lack of age,
though. Clone or android, perhaps?

Seems like the 'GN Particles' are the combination replacement for Minvosky
particles, power supplies, beam shielding, and weapon ammunition. With the
Minovsky particle replacement, they can still 'justify' the use of humanoid
robots with close range weapons. But since they're also the power supplies,
and supposedly 'high tech', it's fair to assume that the 'limitless power'
of them gives them a leg up on everyone else's conventionally powered suits.
There's also the I-Field replacement and use as ammo in the uncreatively
named 'GN Sniper Rifle'. These really are wunder-particles :)

Still, while I'm not big on the actual designs themselves (They are far too
gangly and leggy - I do love a previous poster's description of them as SEED
and Turn A's love child, as that was my first thought as well) I am a fan of
them being built around the reactors. They are large and prominent in the
design, which implies that they were miniaturized as much as possible, and
the robot was built around it. In so far as much as anything about giant
humanoid robots makes sense, having them built around their engine is at
least an interestingly credible idea.

Agreed. I think you are right in that Gundam X is the closest relative, just
with a healthy dose of SRW and VO to 'de-Gundam-ify' them, with the
irritating SEED tendency of having random bits stuck on all over the place
(like the ass-thrusters on Dynames).

We can take solace in the fact that 00 is not going to be backpack-land like
SEED/Destiny turned into... at least until the midseason robot upgrades come
out, anyway :)
