It looks very much like the RX-78-2 to me.  The legs look wrong (they're a bit too rounded and slender, imo), but from the waist up it's a dead ringer for the RX-78-2 (or at least as much of a ringer as it can be that far away from the "camera").  The Exia occured to me as well, but the Exia has some odd stuff near its mid-section and waist.  I'm 99% confident that it's not the Exia.   One of the regulars over at the Dream Pod 9 forums mentioned that he's heard that the scene occurs early in the first episode.  But he didn't know anything more than that.
