You've got his comments a couple of episodes about 'becoming Gundam' or something to that effect (I don't remember exactly what he said). And then in this episode you've got him in the middle of what appears to be a screwed up mental state reaching toward the Gundam as if it were some sort of angel (which, with the way it's GN Particle's were spread, it did indeed resemble in a way).
