Actually Anthony, it is not us who need to pass legislation.
It is the trademark owners. And I welcome them to try.
Domain name holders are protected by laws now, provided that the dns industry
doesn't try and adopt supra-legal protections that go far beyond what the
legislation does or even intended to do.
If they want more protection, let them try and get legislation passed.
We are not trying to eliminate their trademark right, just trying to prevent
supralegal rules from being adopted that go far beyond the laws.
Why should we have to pass laws to stop the adoption of supralegal protections
that ICANN has no authority to grant?
