You miss the point. Is the gray ribbon for the benefit of people on these
lists? I should think not -- most people HERE are already gray, or are
at least aware of the issue. The people who come onto your site and are
one not aware of the issue, and not aware of your efforts, will take one
glance at the book offer and whip on out to somewhere else -- they
might have become allies but will instead disappear. THAT is the
reason one does not mix the two. And that's not my invention: it is a
standard PR commandment -- no. 6, I believe.
