Ugh.
*Everyone* is interested in protecting their intellectual property.
If you're wedded to constituencies, the largest divisions are
infrastructure (ISPs), allocation (registrars, registries), commercial
(trademark owners and other businesses), non-commercial (NPOs, religious
organizations, educational institutions) and personal (individuals).
The focus on trademark owners is the tail wagging the dog. It flies in the
face of the origins of the Internet and the majority uses that are not
commercial (e-mail for example). I imagine, too, that business owners who
don't possess trademarks will wonder why those who do get special
representation. What sets them apart other than $245 (in the U.S.),
passing the hurdle of the 15-month waiting process, and having valid
organizational contact info?
