Sure there was fighting before. That's why the NewCo was needed: to provide
a forum for resolving the conflicts. Despite what Gordon Cook might say,
that was one of the major premises for the creation of a NewCo, and it is in
their bylaws.
But where is this forum that ICANN should be providing? If it existed, we
wouldn't all be sitting here wasting our energy in useless squabbling.
What's going on here and elsewhere is mostly the product of frustration,
IMHO. Someone here once said that there are limits to how far you can string
people along, asking them to write proposals and submit comments, before
they lose faith that they are ever going to be listened to. How many pages
of comments did everybody send to [EMAIL PROTECTED]? I'll bet that even
reading that e-mail address makes people's blood pressure go up.
I think we're approaching that limit, others more than myself because
they've been involved longer. It's a little scarey, but maybe when people
feel they have nothing left to hope for they'll take some sort of positive
action. I just hope that when they do, it's in the right direction (wherever
that may be).
