I can not stress this enough and no IETF member will disagree. If it ain't
open-source it ain't available as a standard. Even Sun made Motif available
in order to allow it to become a standard. This is why, Microsoft will
never get SMB protocols made into a standard, although they've been trying
for years. Samba qualifies, but MS keeps changing the SMB implementation
(look at Win98). This insistance on non-proprietary standards has been
saving all of our bacon. Otherwise, we would be living in a SNA world right
now.
