I am afraid I must agree that ICANN has attempted to paint NSI
in
a less that honest light of too many occasions. This has been
the mantra
mostly of Mike Roberts, CEO ICANN Interim Board that has been borne
out in his own public statements that has been on more than one occasions
in the press. Esther Dyson COB of the ICANN Interim Board has
done
so as well publicly on this very list (IFWP). The ICANN has solicited
the assistance from other organizations in order to build up their
political support for justifying those public statements in the negative
towards NSI and even the SAIC. This is not their mandate under
the
White Paper. That mandate is to provide for the transitioning
of the
Internet to the private sector and provide competition to NSI in the
Domain Name registration area. The ICANN is supposed to do so
in conjunction with the Stakeholder community. This they have
not done
in actuality, as many of us that have been active participants are
very well aware of. The oversight is supposed to come form the
NITA and the DOC. It has been noticed that that oversight, has
been less
that acceptable and prudent over the last several months sense Ira
left the NTIA. This is troubling and beginning to become more
glowingly
concerning to many within the Stakeholder community, most noticeably
those
small and medium business and individual interests. This leaves
me, and
should leave many others to continually ask, and possibly demand that
the NTIA and the DOC do it's duty and leaves us with to demand,
When will the NTIA and the DOC remove this ICANN Interim
Board and arrest this ICANN process?

Karl,It's obvious that you and a few others on this list
have alternative ideological constructs of the universe
surrounding Network Solutions. Those of use who were
actually part of this activity and dealing with these
issues since 1992 have a different set of experiences
and knowledge base.I think most of us can agree, however, that Network
Solutions is only one of many players, and the real
problems here surround those claiming to be king of
the mountain, and the activities in which they are
engaging. The institutions, regulations, taxes,
licensing, and claims being advanced by ICANN and
its GAC are broad and far reaching. They are what
threaten the Internet, not NSI.--tony
