Back in the days when we heard about ICANN as being
a shoe string operation in Joe's back bedroom, being run
off the credit cards of the Board (?) members and maybe
a TRS-80, there was an influx of funds from some heavy
industry hitters. Uh, oh! CAPTURE by the trademark
interests, was the hue and cry. So how can any such
event be avoided?

Well, I (no doubt among others) proposed a buck a
registration, so as to spread the income sources so
that ICANN would be beholden to no one. But now
that that precise thing is being proposed, what are
very likely the same naysayers are demanding that
there be Congressional hearings over that piddling
little buck.

In short, there is no end to the legitimate issues as
to the operation of ICANN that can be raised, but I've
got to tell you -- that buck ain't one of them.
