When people accuse others of being paid agents, more often than not
it's because they're trying to cover up their own take. Accusing
your opponents of what you yourself are doing is a favorite tactic
of all the schemers and plotters involved in setting up ICANN. When
they're on the take, they accuse others of being paid agents. When
they're occupying posts or constituencies they have no right to,
they accuse others of being illegitimate. When they're planning to
monopolize, they accuse others of anti-competitive activities. When
they're destabilizing the Internet, they accuse others of trying to
split the root. And so on.

These are the time-worn tactics of unimaginative people who are on
the defensive because they know that they are doing wrong. Their
only recourse is to pre-empt justifiable accusations against them by
getting the jump on those who might accuse them. After a while,
everyone sees through it.
