I may have used/be using some images from these folks. The site isn't familiar, but it may have been redesigned since I was last there.
Yes. By all means, make sure you know how trustworthy your sources are. However, you can save tons of time and effort using canned base and VM images (a/k/a appliance VMs). I've both used and created systems of this ilk. I have a very nice Trac appliance that I have customized over the last few years - saved the pain of getting all the pieces-parts installed, patched, and integrated. When I wanted to run my own MediaWiki server, the easiest way to do so was to obtain and boot a VM appliance image. Like I said, I also produce VM appliances. One of the most important ones I have is the mail VM, which has SendMail, Dovecot and Mailman all set up and ready to customize. I can concentrate on the details of the email systems themselves and not have to worry about the OS itself other than to periodically run a system update and snapshot a new appliance image. And then there's my favorite turnkey system of them all - the one that boots up the box as an IBM mainframe IMPL and runs OS/MVS. :) Tim On Fri, 2011-09-23 at 12:08 -0400, Michael Potts wrote: > They offer a nifty 'core' install with nothing but OS, so you can very > easily roll your own custom VM.
