But keep in mind that these days, anything involving an airplane is also a long brutal trip, quite apart from the time actually spent in the airplane. You need to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours early. You need to find parking at the airport. The plane will likely be late. You need to take time out to rent a car on the far end, or take cabs. A 30 minute flight could end up being six hours. If any of you is larger than usual, keep in mind that, from what I hear, Southwest has the strictest size restrictions on passengers. If their seatbelt doesn't fit your waist, you don't go -- no extender, no nothing. Personally, I would gladly make a 12 hour drive to save the hassle of air travel.
