For what it's worth, I think the SQL Server license for $3400 (I forgot the title of the license) works well for most servers...though that is not fun to shell out either hehe :-) I'm seriously watching MySQL for the features they are adding as I would rather pay the yearly cost of their support license for 5 years instead, but the fact is, SQL server is a really good product.

Good luck,
Mike.

Thanks… I think he would definitely tolerate some latency if it saved him $6K.  I'll check HostMySite out.

I've been somewhat pleased with HostMySite's shared Sql Servers.  Its not ideal, but 6000 versus a little slower response times, well there is the answer to your question.  How much dependency does the client's application place on speed versus initial costs?  you can always later move to a dedicated server, and the shared server on HostMySite has been ok for me so far.

I have a client who needs to get a SQL Server database up and running for his business.  He didn't particularly thrill at the idea of shelling out $6000 for a server license.  Does anyone have experience with a hosted SQL Server provider that they would recommend (or NOT recommend)?  Any pros or cons?  Any other options I'm not considering?

Thanks,

Brad
