As someone who has had to deal with some painful implementations of ColdFusion servers talking to remote datasources on other networks, I would suggest looking at some other solution such as webservices or just serving up XML. Is that a possibility?

Is <cfftp/> an option? If you used that you wouldn't have to worry about Windows permissions across the network.

The production server is in the DMZ of the firewall and it is a workgroup by itself not part our our Windows domain.
