I haven't seen a hard lock in quite some time. Is this just a standard

CARP setup or is there anything special going on like bridging?

Were they really locked up? Was the console unresponsive, or perhaps at

a debug prompt?

Have you eliminated any external factors such as power/environment?

Usually if it were some kind of traffic it would do something to the

master, cause it to fail, and then a short time later cause the backup

to fail. It wouldn't typically hit both of them simultaneously.

That said, depending on your hardware, you might also want to visit this

page and apply some of the suggested settings:

This is a two system carp I have for intel nic's in each system. I am
running the nanobsd verson when I plugged in the serial cable I got the
console on both systems but No ethernet traffice would flow as these are
production units I rebooted them to get them back on line.

As far as enviromental they were both plutted into two seperate UPS power
supplies and each wan port was plugged into a different switch on our
providers side.

I too was perplexed how somthing could take out both units like this. It
does not make any sense to me I am leaning to some kind of enviromental
issue. everthing has been backup several days and working great. I am just
corssing my fingers that it does not happen again before I can figure out
what caused it.

I will check out the link

Thanks

Bryant
