I found that I had problems with FreeBSD using pf + virtio under KVM 
but not when using pf + e1000 under KVM (under CentOS 6).  That was 
under RELENG_9.  I haven't tried RELENG_8_* or RELENG_10.  I should try 
again, to see if I still get problems.
