Peter,

Everything sounds so interesting! You all are having a wonderful time over
there! Wish I was there to participate...

We are down to the last two weeks of the program. I hadn't slept in more
than twenty-four hours so I slept for twelve hours straight (only after the
faculty revised the schedule). Feel much better today. It has been an
intense two and a half weeks but worth every minute of my time! The faculty
members are wonderful and all very helpful in this time of tremendous
growth. Today I facilitated a discussion on Lisa Lowe's introduction to her
book "Immigrant Acts.." I complicated her text with Omi and Winant's racial
formation paradigm, and we had an interesting conversation about the racial
formation of Asian Americans. =) It was great.

I love all the people I've met here. All students are interested in teaching
at some point in their lives and they come from all facets of life.
nevertheless, we all have two things in common: we wanna teach and we all
students of color.

We are currently working on our second drafts of our statements of purpose.
This process is really helping me clarify my research project and my field
of study. Let's hope the next draft after this one is the final one. =)

Tomorrow is the first day of Recruiter's Weekend. Tsione will be here! A
familiar face! =D I am nervous but excited all at the same time to be
meeting and conversing with my future school!

Well, have a great Mellon week and tell all the fellows and fellow travelers
I say "hello and I miss them all!"

See you all in a few weeks!

Next week -- seminar July 18, outings on July 18 and 19. For the
seminar -- please finish Ari Sitas, VOICES THAT REASON. I will try to send
out questions for discussion by M or T. Seminar is usual time and place --
W 10am-noon, 4th floor Old Main.
On W night, July 18, we will attend the staged reading of Carlyle
Brown's "Are You Now, or Have You Ever Been...?", a newly written play
(still in process) about Langston Hughes' struggles as he prepared to
respond to a subpoena to testify before Joe McCarthy's communist-hunting
hearings in 1954. Then, on Th night, July 19, at 10pm (yes, us old folks
will have to nap in the afternoon, but it will be worth it!), we will go to
Bedlam Theater to see a number of puppet plays by the brilliant, political,
New York City-based Great Small Works company. Trust me! I have a LIMITED
number of tickets for each of these two shows. If you want to attend, you
MUST hit me back by noon Monday.
Looking ahead, please hold Thursday, July 26, 5pm on, for a tour of the
Picasso exhibit at the Walker Art Center. Freda has arranged for us to get
a guided tour. I will be providing readings for you, too.
   Love and Solidarity,
   Peter
