Fellows and Fellow Travelers:
  Important developments -- please note:

1) We will hold W's seminar class in our regular room, Old Main 002, since Art 111 is too small for us. Professor Godollei will be coming to us and bringing slides to illustrate her presentation. Please feel free to invite others (e.g., Adelante members) who might be interested in Frida Kahlo. Please also consult the readings for which there are links below.

Hi Peter, students should get a little background biography of Kahlo first, since much of her work is autobiographical and political, including the self portraits.
Try Frida by Kahlo, which is very introductory

and the Tate Modern Museum's guide which is more comprehensive. Be sure they click on the picture links so they learn to 'read' her paintings.

They should check out the Walker Art Center blog LAST, because it is important to have some history and background first. It will have an entry by Juanita Garcigodoy, a longtime Mac prof. , later.

2) We will NOT be going to the Walker this Thursday evening to see the exhibit. Karin Aguilar San Juan has arranged a Globalization Cafe Forum for Thursday evening which is just too good to pass up. Please see details below.

This is just to remind your students that they are invited to join my Globalization Cafe Forum this Thursday evening, 6:30-9:30 pm. We will meet in Smail Gallery. The forum will engage the question of Culture in an age of Globalization, including the role of the artist of color. Our special guests will include: Prof. Theo Gonzalves (U Hawaii), Lou Bellamy (director, Penumbra Theater), and Roger and DeAnna Cummings (Juxtaposition Arts).

The Cafe process invites contributions from everyone. Because space and food is
limited, I'm asking for RSVPs. Please be prepared to give me a firm RSVP in W's
seminar, so that I can let Professor San Juan know how many of us there will be.

3) I also want to remind you to attend Professor Gonzalves' public lecture on Thursday,
"Stage Presence: Conversations with Filipino American Performing Artists," at
11:40-1:00 PM in Humanities 401. Need I warn you to arrive early as the crowd is always
substantial!

4) I am working on a student group discount ticket/outing to the Walker to see
the Kahlo exhibit.

See you Wednesday for the seminar!

Love and Solidarity,
Peter
