LAVA was just one phase in Carl's big plan. IIRC, Carl wanted to end up with a
new kind of operating system, built with LAVA as the foundation - as he said,
being able to communicate is a basic need, and only when this is possible can
the other layers be added.

I don't remember which part of the big plan was called Magma, but one of them
was. I guess you can all see the theme of these names, and I kinda like it -
seeing the current computer situation as a grey, boring, and unproductive
thing: A rock. Along comes Carl's plan, which partially melts the rock in
order to create something new, something much more dynamic. (Oh, do behave,
this is probably enough dumb philosophy from my side for the next couple of
months!...)

Of course, REBOL has had other predecessors too, one of them being a
multimedia language that Carl (and some others?) made at Viscorp. Though, I
do not know what this one was called.

Anyway, it would be really interesting to know if Carl still has those plans
about a new OS kinda thing, or whether REBOL will be "just" a
platform-independent programming system.

Kind regards,
