What about avoiding special cases making every file end with "^/^/"?
In a quick way you could do:
a: append read %a-file "^/^/"
but could end up with extra paragraphs at the end.
To be sure that the string always ends with just 2 "^/" you could do:
a: read %a-file
a: back tail a
while [ a = "^/" ] [ a: back clear a ]
a: append a "^/^/"
