"^(9b)" is the CSI Control Sequence Introducer used to use less bandwidth :-) than the couple "^(1b)[" It should be a standard ANSI char (in the RKM I see a reference to a ANSI 3.64 standard), but I understand that it is a printable char in some systems or fonts.
