Let me get my typographical error off the table.  I (mis)typed "the"
when I intended "an".  I was trying to state that the block that is
created by translating a source text beginning with

    [a: ""  b: copy "" ;...etc...

has as its second element a reference to "an empty string" -- meaning
a string of length zero.  The same is true of its fifth element,
which also refers initially to an empty string.

I did not mean to imply -- nor do I believe -- that the two (second and
fifth elements) refer to the same string.
