Checking the source for 'replace from the console:

>> ? replace
Replaces the search value with the replace value within the target series.

Arguments:
target -- Series that is being modified. (series)
search -- Value to be replaced.
replace -- Value to replace with.
Refinements:
    /all -- Replace all occurrences.

The presence of the /all refinement pretty much cements the implication that
replace operates on the first value found. To replace them all, use
replace/all.

Good luck,
Russ
