Greetings All,
I'm brand new to the list so I'll ask your pardon
for my naivete about some subjects you're discussing. However
this did my catch my attention...

I would be one of these people. I own/operate an ISP
in southcentral Idaho for a living. We do custome web
programming and site design throughout our area. REBOL caught my
attention because I'm sick and tired of "shooting flies
with a bazooka" when developing web apps. I've programmed
in a number of languages doing development for my clients.
In many cases the sheer immensity of the language (Java)
or complexity (Perl) overshadows everything. What a pain.
What drew me to REBOL is the concept of SIMPLICITY. It
appears to me the current trend in modern programming and
scripting languages is to start with simple ideas and then
throw in evrything including the kitchen sink! IMHO that is
what is really hurting Java and Perl. Too much crap and too
steep a learning curve to get to usable results.
I hope REBOL will continue to stay "simple".
I don't want to sound too hypocritical after my statements above,
I would like to see database connectivity worked into the language
with a focus on mySQL. We use mySQL a lot and generally rely on PHP
embedded in the web page to access the databases. Php is getting
more like PERL in it's size and complexity...
Have a good one...
