Greetings All,
A comment on the OpenSource issue and REBOL...
        --SOAPBOX MODE ON--
I've always considered the OpenSource 'movement' to be a
two-edged sword of sorts. On the one hand, having large numbers of
talented (and some not so talented people) contributing to a project
certainly can further it's development in significant ways. Fresh ideas,
the ability to examine and improve code, etc is a wonderful benefit.
However, as they say "too many cooks spoil the stew" applies as well.
Without an agenda, development can get off track and the project becomes
bloated and out of focus. Not a good thing IMO.
I like the form of control as implemented in the development of
LINUX kernal source. Many people contribute but the final say on what is
actually implemented is determined by Linus Torvalds.
I think Elan has a point in..

Why not? As OpenSource is basically on a 'volunteer' basis,
contributors are not stymied by lack of support from other contributors
or denied access to code as in other proprietary systems. Yet, the
overall
development agenda can be planned or controlled by the REBOL Tech folks.
(Hope I'm stating that correctly.) If the agenda is made available
and everyone involved has an idea of the direction the project needs to
take, 'order from chaos' is achieved and hopefully, the project stays
trim and focused.

        Have a good one.
