from TB-303 resources mailing list -------[ http://www.tb-303.org ] ---------------------- Yes, basically. Except that you use the midi OUT of the computer, to the midi IN of the synths / drumcomputers. The audio out of the synths / drumcomputers goes to the mixer.

If your pc/soundcard can handle it, you could also use the pc to record while sequencing at the same time, though it is not the most comfortable solution.

Thanks, I think I get it now. For every music unit I have (drum machine, synth), I take the audio out and from them and plug it into a mixer like a mackie 1604 or so. I use the MIDI outs to my computer, where I use a sequencer to controll all of these music devices that I have. When I am ready to record, I use the my computer and its sequencer to controll all of the midi instruments, which in turn are being recorded by an external recorder which is hooked up through the mixer. Am I right? Thanks ;)

from TB-303 resources mailing list -------[ http://www.tb-303.org ] ---------------------- Tim:
You can easily make a split cord from the outputs, so one stereo pair goes to the monitors and one pair to the computer for recording. As a rule of thumb, splitting is okay, mixing not - you need a desk for that.

Jaybird-
Thanks for the great writeup; good information! One thing, however:
If I have the midi out of my computer going into the 909, only the original (un-FX'ed) signal will be going into my computer. If I have the audio out from the 909 go through the Fx pedal, then into a mixer, then to monitors, then how do I record this considering the main I/O is going to the monitors, not some sort of external device.
Again, I am pretty new to all of this, but it is all coming together slowly=) Thanks for any help!

have midi wire from PC to 909. hit a sequencer track of four C1 Notes every
4 steps of a 16 step pattern (1 bar) for kicks.have your 909 Kickdrum audio
out goto your stomp box pedel, have the pedels out go to the mixer, and have
your mixer goto your montors. A good start out board is a mackie 16 track 2
bus.thats 16 mono tracks that mixdown to a 2 track (L/R).  Bam! Crunchy over
driven beats.   Connect all the drum outs  to the board and now you can EQ
each sound (very useful). If you get a rack FX piece, you can have the FX
send goto it, and have the Audio out of the FX rack goto FX return. Put your
comperssors and a 30 band EQ coming from the out of your board b4 your
monitors and DAT deck for mastering FX's. Hope this helps.. BTW this is all
call routing.
