For some strange reason, the ac power supply works on my other 303's, but NOT on my new one. Any and all of the other ac adapters that I used on the new unit as well....go figure...so, I am good to go...thanks for your help and advice.
As for your problem, I am sure it's the contacts. I had that happen once and scraped them, and sanded them carefully and it worked fine.
