The only significant viewport limitation I see isn't intrinsic.
Viewport limitation isn't intrinsic to a display/viewport? We must have different definitions of intrinsic or something.
If you don't measure your design objects in px, then viewport size needn't matter much, if at all.
Until all graphics/video/multimedia are completely vector and scalable along with textual content, size does matter. A 200px by 100px image at 100% viewport width and height (assume normal 800x600/1024x768/etc) is completely unusable. While you might not think that "design objects" include bitmaps, they certainly do.
