Thanks John! That worked a treat.

Do you know why it wasn't working and why this fixes it?  I would like to
better understand this if I can so I can avoid it in the future.

Adding #content { display: inline-block; } to your IE stylesheet should  
sort it out in IE7.
Not sure I understand the IE6 question.
