Watch out for Offline Files. By default it’s enabled on folder redirection,
even when done manually. Look in his list of offline servers and you will
likely still see the old one.

I’m thinking that if you can get rid of that, the problem may be resolved.
I’ve found in the past that this can be easier said than done, however. You
may need to disable Offline Files completely, at least temporarily.
BUT….Depending on the timing of this he may have new and changed files in
that cached share, so I would recommend copying the files to a third
location before you blow away the offline version.

*Subject:* [NTSysADM] Redirected Desktop without GPO

Hi all

I have a user that "redirected his desktop" some time ago on his pc , so
today when we put a new NAS in his desktop won't load.

He had his desktop folder located in his home share on the old server

\\server01\users\user_name\home\desktop
<file:///\\server01\users\user_name\home\desktop>

because home shares didnt take up much space on the server we left the home
shares but we renamed the server (server01 to server02), and gave the new
NAS the old server name (server01) due to many apps/links/coding that is
used using the original server name.

So now when he logs on, his desktop hangs and errors out "could not locate
\\server01\users\user_name\home\desktop
<file:///\\server01\users\user_name\home\desktop> " which makes sense
because the path

"\\server01\users\user_name\home\desktop
<file:///\\server01\users\user_name\home\desktop>" doesn't exist anymore
and the real location is now

"\\server02\users\user_name\home\desktop
<file:///\\server02\users\user_name\home\desktop>"

I went to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

changed the desktop folder to value to the new servername , but it still
gives that error.

I ran gpresult just to make sure it wasnt coming from domain GPO's and
also opened up gpedit locally
and there are no settings configured.

I'm pretty stumped on this one
