Regarding CU5 vs SP1; and how close they are being released... working at a
company that has different processes around Cumulative Updates vs. Service
Packs, we can deploy a Cumulative Update basically during our monthly patching
cycle "it's just an update". But for whatever reason politically internally (I
can't explain it), a "Service Pack" requires sign offs, meetings, scheduling
during planned, announced, and clearly defined "special maintenance window"...
in other words, a CU we can deploy out quickly. but a service pack takes
longer.
I know, and you know, that from a technical standpoint it's not really that big
of a difference. But politically / process-wise ... it's a PIA.

Yes – In the Channel 9 video they say they wanted to remove the situation where
people were instead turning to a separate publishing server.. So fingers
crossed, it’ll be just as good after the server pack. From:

Well this CU5 doesn't include fixes to AppV and other things like they’ve said
will be included in SP1.. So I’d assume not. Microsoft ay!

positive they haven't gone the same route as with exchange 2013 where they call
everything Cumulative Updates? I.e. Exchange 2013 sp1 is also called cu4. Just
seems really odd to release a SP a week after a CU, no?On May 7, 2015 8:57 AM,

Subject: [mssms] R2 CU5 or R2 SP1? I thought I heard that R2 SP1 was supposed
to be released this week? Was that just CU5? I think I got my wires crossed.
