SP1 for R2 SP2 for non-R2 Mike From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Robert Schlichting Sent: Thursday, May 14, 2015 11:06 AM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [mssms] RE: R2 CU5 or R2 SP1? Think I understand it now.. looks like they simply put ALL the service pack files all in one setup.. so it doesn’t matter if you are R2 or not.. you just run the “May 2015” service pack install and the installer will detect the existing installation and apply accordingly.... Would have made more sense if they simply named it differently. If you are installing a new setup.. then follow the directions for that… From: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Harjit Dhaliwal Sent: Thursday, May 14, 2015 11:33 AM To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Subject: Re: [mssms] RE: R2 CU5 or R2 SP1? Mai 2015 02:16 To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Subject: RE: [mssms] RE: R2 CU5 or R2 SP1? For now, SCCM CU is still a CU, a collection of hotfixes. The upcoming service pack will include everything in CU5 as well as other stuff, namely support for Win10 and a bunch of feature enhancements (see my session http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/Ignite/2015/BRK3328<http://cp.mcafee.com/d/avndy1J5xB5NdxUsYrKrjK-qerFLfIICQXLCzCWrPXP1JeXVEVKCY-OMrjK-qerFLfCzCVKdi7NDg52dyvWvcDro_OVIhIj_jVAXr7-ndErp1xZZ_HYyMOCVvHTbFFIIYPuW9EVoVqWdAklrThVkffGhBrwqrjdK6XCXCM0tyuMxVVEVVmy4enMqc_2tc3ic9j_4XELUcwI2CmkTzpYGjFG2IE0E-l9QVkJarJoJGYKrhjo78TdwLQzh0qmRqklEqnjh02NF8Qg0JcQg2gjvd45oCy05FCy0o2O98SOOr4f9vlwoz> for details on OSD). You don’t get those with CU5, just bug fixes. Like Sherry said, it’s easier for most organizations to deploy a CU because it’s lighter weight, whereas a service pack is a bigger process to validate and get through change management. We’ll provide documentation on prereqs and all that at release, but CU5 will not be a prereq. If your org is really agile and can take the SP right away, awesome, party down. But if you’ll take a bit to evaluate and plan the upgrade, then apply CU5 to get the bug fixes in play while you work on the SP.
