Otherwise +1 on metageek inSSIDer for quick location jobs. Finding a 'distance from AP' tool would be difficult with all of the variables involved - receiver sensitivity, AP Tx strength, obstacles, etc. It's a best guess, triangulating based on the signal strengths received at various locations. Doing a full site survey with either ekahau or AirMagnet will get you within a few meters (depending on the accuracy of your data points) of the AP locations. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Kurt Buff Sent: Friday, May 15, 2015 3:27 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [NTSysADM] wifi analyzing Best I can think of is one of the products from http://www.metageek.com/ Kurt On Thu, May 14, 2015 at 5:38 PM, J- P <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi all, > > Can anyone recommend a wifi analyzer (software or hardware) that's not > going cost me a mortgage payment or two? > > I have this great little app on my phone which does detect AP's, > displays signal strength (with sound as you get closer/further), shows > channel usage & overlap , but I need something a little better, > however, I'm not ready to fork out 4k just yet. > > tia >
