Ah OK that should be fine then – that just installs the BranchCache feature (http content server) which is correct. So BranchCache for SMB won’t work on that server – but if you only use BranchCache on there for CM then that’s fine – CM doesn’t use SMB from the DP by default..
I would still check the server config using netsh to confirm that it installed ok though.. Thanks for the reply on the forum also (I will update that when I find a solution). We haven’t installed any roles on the server. All I have done in tick the “Enable and configure BranchCache for this distribution point” for the DP. Just checking, because I notice that you have a question on the Technet Forums too. Did you install the BranchCache For Network Files role service? Or the BranchCache feature. If you want to use it with CM you need the BranchCache feature not the SMB stuff.. We are trying to run a test to enable BranchCache for the clients, but are having a few problems. We have enabled the central DP for BranchCache. We have configured the GPO for the clients to switch on BranchCache, Enable Distributed Mode, configure firewall exceptions (and checked that the GPO is applying to the test machines). We have set up perfmon to monitor the BC numbers (so that we can prove it is working). When we kick off an install the BITS download happens but the BC numbers in perfmon remain at zero. I have tried a SMB file copy as well to see if that gets cached but it doesn’t seem to move the number either. Any thoughts on what failing? Am I missing something here? ________________________________ Information in this message is sent in confidence and is intended only for the use of the individual or entity to whom it is addressed.
