Last time I ran data centers I had lots of devices from IT Watchdog. I put a sensor in every rack. You might be amazed at the temperature differences in racks based on the equipment and airflow at that location. Had them in 3 data centers and probably 40 wiring closets. Stand alone devices (other than IP connectivity), no java required. Fairly inexpensive. Can be centrally reported. Support was great at the time. Haven't used them in 2 years (not my responsibility anymore) and they have been purchased by another company so don't know if that had any impact. But great products.
