Not a guaranteed yes, but we do have one single client on R2 SP1 and we are still on R2 CU4. That client works fine for inventory, patching, and package deployments. Not sure about the rest.

We currently are at CM2012 R2 and we use a "stand alone" client installation package v5.0.7958.1501 (don't ask - politics). We are planning to perform the above mentioned upgrade in 2 weeks but want to get the New Client installation package v5.0.8239.1203 prepared and deployed ASAP. Looking at several MS articles It appears this new Client version will work in the older environment (just no new features) until the Site Systems are upgraded. Is this a correct assumption?
