Well, when you install 2013 U1 it will uninstall the older version. It will not automatically upgrade your deployment share, so that can remain "as is" until you are ready to upgrade it. This way if you want to create a new deployment share to test 2013 U1 first you can and your original boot images will still work with the original deployment share.
