I have actually been looking at the second link. I am not on R2 SP1 but rather 2012 SP2. Versions match up as well, so I think I am good. I will look at the first link also and see what I can find out.

It will not automatically upgrade your deployment share, so that can remain “as is” until you are ready to upgrade it. This way if you want to create a new deployment share to test 2013 U1 first you can and your original boot images will still work with the original deployment share.
