I read from a pundit last night that EMC’s stake in VMWare is exactly what
they’re mostly after.

It's even worse than that, Don -- the merger/acquisition will likely
compound the problems of each org.

Even the best companies struggle to do massive integration well.

Hopefully, they'll decide to spin off VMWare before they taint that as well.

I think what we are looking at here is a play into the converged/cloud
stacks to join Cisco, HP and IBM at the party. Although probably late. I
believe the larger issue at hand here is neither Dell or EMC are in the
upper echelon of technology anymore. So Dell stays mediocre and EMC
becomes more so as time goes on.

Can you say "value to lawyers and bankers -- ONLY"?

I knew you could.

For the good of the universe, this potential deal needs to be scuttled with
the swiftness.

Of course, you'll hear a whole lot of analysts talking about the potential
for "super synergy across the full spectrum of products" and "adding to the
enterprise value chain," but all we'll get is longer IVR sequences,
cancelled product lines, and mediocrity at a grander scale.
