I was in the educational sector for a while – they are ALWAYS looking to spend
as little as possible (unless it’s the end of the year and they have to dispose
of grant money so they get the same amount next year…) In this case, I would
say use Cat5e for the endpoint runs. Honestly, endpoints that require 10Gb are
a ways away. +1 on the advice to use a rack-mount mid-span power injector.
Makes for a much tidier and more reliable wiring closet, and you gain remote
power-cycling ability. Just curious, what brand AP’s are they deploying? Bud

Subject: [NTSysADM] Cat5e or 6 for wifi Hi all,

I have project coming up for 50 ap deployments, and they are asking "do they
really need cat6"
I guess the bulk of the budget is going to the AP's and are trying to save
elsewhere.

you would think they wouldn't quibble over 2500 after spending 30k on AP's

This is for an elementary school

any thoughts
