I know it’s a bit convoluted, but here is what you do.

Since this is a new install you will start with downloading and installing SCCM
2012 SP2. I don’t know the exact filename on the download site, but you (as
odd as it sounds) start with a 2012 SP2 site. Then there is the smaller
download (~ 1MB I believe). You instal that second to “convert" your 2012 SP2
site over to a 2012 R2 SP1 site. Finally you download and install CU1.

I’ll try to get onto the TechNet eval site to get the actual filenames to help
make my explanation clearer.

Subject: [mssms] New SCCM 2012 Install

This may sound like a silly question and I have researched but still have
questions / confusion.

We are on SCCM 2007 and plan to install and move to SCCM 2012 in the next month
or so. I am trying to understand what binaries and updates I need to download /
install and in what order. I will be the first to admit that I have not kept
up with the 2012 updates/SP’s etc..as we are on 2007 and it did not pertain to
us.

What is the major differences between 2012 SP2 & 2012 R2 SP1 ?

Can either version be upgraded to the next release when it becomes available or
should I plan for that now?

I believe that I want to end up with SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 CU1 – Is this the latest
and greatest?

Can anyone lay out the actual install steps for someone coming from scratch? We
do own EA/SA on our software.

Thanks in advance and sorry for what may seem to be very naïve questions.

Carl
