My guess is enough people had issues with under spec'd servers and the price of
RAM has gotten cheaper so they significantly increased this number. I'd say
that it's highly dependent on the size of your environment though.

Wasn't this only 8 cores and 32gb ram for ConfigMgr 2012? That's certainly what
my site server has now; not sure how I'm going to go getting more than that.
