Our environment is pretty large but, as the team that performs server patching and trouble shooting, our rights are significant. BatchPatch is on its own server and can be run as a service, so the rights of the service could be used if a network is so tightly controlled that those that patch and troubleshoot your servers aren’t allowed enough access rights to follow through. BatchPatch allows going through windows update or wsus, so my non-internet domains are able to pull from wsus when needed. I guess I don’t imagine why anyone would want a support team with limited access to manage their patching.

If you have a small to medium size environment where you have remote admin rights and allow RPC+DCOM from your console the it is worth reading about. For many organizations, especially those with support teams and networks which have limited authority/access, you need a solution which the client (remote system) "pulls" policy/data from since "pushing" policy/data to them isn't a realistic possibility. Not only is it fast and easy to use but it can be configured to show you that your servers have patched, rebooted, and all automatic services are functional. BatchPatch is licensed per user (not domain nor number of, as is the case with us, multiple id’s in those domains) and is exceedingly affordable. SCCM is not efficient or affordable for accurate patching. Nor does SCCM give real time results of the status of anything related to your patching.
