If you setup your DHCP correctly (bit fiddly but can be done) it works fine.
WDS has an 'off by one' bug that throws things a bit - which leads people (and
Microsoft) down the path of 'always use IP Helpers because DHCP don't work'

Andreas wrote a paper on it - if you follow the steps in there it all works
fine and you can control your PXE boots for both BIOS and EFI clients.. only
works on WS2012 DHCP though not 2008

We use 1E PXELite, it should be alot easier.

For PXE for UEFI, you'll need to setup secondary IP helpers that point to your
PXE server. If using DHCP option 66/67, then UEFI boot for PXE will have
intermittent results.

Seeing issues formatting drives on our new Lenovo model P50. They all have NVMe
drives. Was told today by Lenovo that the NVMe drives only support UEFI boot.
That would have been awesome to know when we sat down with them and decided to
go with NVMe drives. Now we are scrambling to test PXE, the HDD format steps,
and make sure our 3rd party encryption works.

Windows 7 on NVMe
drives<http://lenovocentral.lenovo.com/blogs/cdrt/2016/01/25/windows-7-on-nvme-drives/>
When working with customers that want to deploy Windows 7 to new Sky Lake
systems, please keep in mind the following guidelines regarding NVMe drives:
1. NVMe drives cannot be formatted with MBR.
2. NVMe drives only work when the system is configured for UEFI boot.
Therefore, to deploy Windows 7 to a system with NVMe drives:
* the system must be configure for UEFI boot
*  the Windows 7 must be 64-bit
* and the following patch from Microsoft is required to be applied to the
Windows 7 OS.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2990941
Because of this I would recommend that customers build a Windows 7 64-bit
reference image that is fully patched including this update and use that to
apply in their deployment task sequence.
This patch provides basic functionality for read/write to all NVMe drives. It
does not provide support for advanced functionality that would be used for
updating the drive firmware or for OPAL management. To obtain these features a
vendor-specific driver must be used. There is a driver in the works from
Samsung; however, be forewarned that this driver currently will not support
OPAL management with Windows 7.

Thanks, but this seems not to be my issue; I cannot get the system to even boot
in Safe Mode - there is a problem somewhere related to critical boot drivers /
boot environment when imaging from MDT.

I can install the OS manually directly from DVD (native, unmodified Volume
License version downloaded directly from Microsoft) and then install all of the
hardware drivers; I actually have done that and then copied the resulting
drivers from the DriverStore\FileRepository and put those in the MDT Out-of-Box
Drivers (after first deleting the Dell CAB drivers) but that did not help.

I had a similar issue with the Dell Optiplex 3020. The above link solved it for
me. I know you stated you had a 3040, but it might be a similar issue or lead
you down a similar path. Hope this helps.

Subject: [MDT-OSD] Dell Optiplex 3040

I am struggling with getting Windows 7 deployed to the Dell Optiplex 3040 using
MDT 2013 Update 2. After the OS is applied and the system reboots, it fails
booting to Windows. I am using driver selection profiles to inject
model-specific drivers, and I imported all of the drivers from the Dell
TechCenter CAB for the 3040 / W7x86. I also manually extracted and imported
the Intel Rapid Storage F6 drivers. I have added the 2 hotfixes (KB2990941 and
KB3087873) that Microsoft lists as needed for deploying Win7 to Skylake / NVMe
storage to the Packages group.

Any ideas as to what I am missing?

Thanks,

David
