Looks like a good start for an electronic novice. :-) That's the beauty of many of the off-the-shelf parts these days. The firmware has developed enough to make it very easy to knit together. You should see the huge display I picked up at a hamfest. The only problem is that the controller is not intelligent. I would have to knit a brain to interface between a system and the display.
Cheap but sexy LCDs are all over the place but, like you said, they'd require a lot more than I want to get into. I've wanted to learn the whole electronics thing for a long time but reading about resisters and doing a kit just isn't as much fun as plugging stuff in and seeing work get accomplished. Very rewarding.
So have we given up on the Palm alltogether? If so, make me a deal on the CodeWarrior. ;-) I could add that to my Palm collection box.
Pay for shipping and it's yours. I'll toss in the book too.
A great mag for a resource (I'm a charter subscriber) is Circuit Cellar Ink. They carry ads for all the gadgets you are using and many, many more. Their webpage/data well has source code for the projects they have articles for. Hmmm...your project sounds like a good one to write up. They are always looking for copy. Think about it.
